What is Population?

Population

By population we mean the total items or data which are in under investigation. Population is symbol by N. This N is known as population size.

There are two types of population:

Population

• Finite : Which population is countable that is known as Finite Population. For example: faculty members of a institute, population of a city,   etc.

• Infinite: Which population is not countable that is known as Infinite Population. For example: leaf, fish under ocean, rain drop , stars etc.

Sample

A representative number of population units which are under investigation constitutes a sample.

For example : Given population is {1, 2, ,3,  4,  5, 6, 7, 8,9}  But we will work by only {1, 2, 3, 5}

Sample is something similar as Subset.

Unit

Particular of a single element of sample is called unit.

For example: If { 1, 2, 3, 5} is sample than individually 1 , 2, 3, or 5 is unit.
