Tense

The concept of tense in English is a method that we use to refer to time :- past, present and future.
Past, Present and Future all have 4 types each of them.
i) Indefinite/Simple Tense
ii) Continuous Tense
iii) Perfect Tense
iv) Perfect Continuous Tense



Basic structure of tense 


Present Tense

Present Indefinite Tense

Structure : Subject + Present form of Verb + Extension
Example: 
  1. I eat rice.
  2. He eats mango.
  3. They want a  car.
  4. I go to school.
  5. I am a student.
  6. She loves me.
  7. He is a student.
  8. Bangladesh is a independent country.
  9. He likes cricket.
  10. My father is a doctor.
[ Note: If there is no main verb then auxiliary verb will use as main verb. Most of the time after ' he, she, it, any kind of name' we will use s/es after the main verb.  That is only usable in Present Indefinite Tense.]

Present Continuous Tense

Structure: Subject + am/is/are + Verb + ing + Extension
Example: 
  1. I am going to school.
  2. They are eating salad.
  3. He is watching BPL match.
  4. Bangladesh is developing.
  5. We are celebrating National Victory Day in 16 December.

Present Perfect Tense

Structure: Subject + have/has + Past Participle form of Verb + Extension.
Example:
  1. He has eaten fruits.
  2. I have gone there.
  3. They have done this.
  4. Govt. has taken the step.
  5. I have written the letter.
[Note: Where to use have or has ?
  • If subject is singular then use ' has '
  • If subject is plural the use ' have '
  • If subject is I then use ' have ']

Present Perfect Continuous Tense

Structure : Subject + have/has + been + Verb + ing + Extension.
Example : 
  1. I have been eating mango.
  2. They have been going  there.
  3. He has been doing this.
  4. Teacher has been punishing him.
  5. The baby has been wanting some milk.

Past Tense

Past Indefinite Tense

Structure : Subject + Past form of Verb + Extension
Example: 
1.     I ate rice.
2.     He ate mango.
3.     They wanted a  car.
4.     I went to school.
5.     I was a student.
6.     She loved me.
7.     He was a student.
8.     Bangladesh was an independent country.
9.     He liked cricket.
10. My father was a doctor.

Past Continuous Tense

Structure: Subject + was/were + Verb + ing + Extension
Example: 
1.     I was going to school.
2.     They were eating salad.
3.     He was watching BPL match.
4.     Bangladesh was developing.
5.     We were celebrating National Victory Day in 16 December.
Past Perfect Tense

Structure: Subject + had + Past Participle form of Verb + Extension.
Example:
1.     He had eaten fruits.
2.     I had gone there.
3.     They had done this.
4.     Govt. had taken the step.
5.     I had written the letter.
Past Perfect Continuous Tense

Structure : Subject + had + been + Verb + ing + Extension.
Example : 
1.     I had been eating mango.
2.     They had been going  there.
3.     He had been doing this.

Future Tense

Future Indefinite Tense

Structure: Subject + will + Past form of Verb + Extension
Example: 
1.     I will eat rice.
2.     He will eat mango.
3.     They will want a car.
4.     I will go to school.
5.     I will be a student.
6.     She will love me.
7.     He will be a student.
8.     Bangladesh will be an independent country.
9.     He will like cricket.
10. My father will be a doctor.

Future Continuous Tense

Structure: Subject + will be + Verb + ing + Extension
Example: 
1.     I will be going to school.
2.     They will be eating salad.
3.     He will be watching BPL match.
4.     Bangladesh will developing.
5.     We will be celebrating National Victory Day in 16 December.
Future Perfect Tense

Structure: Subject + will have/ will has + Past Participle form of Verb + Extension.
Example:
1.     He will has eaten fruits.
2.     I will have gone there.
3.     They will have done this.
4.     Govt. will has taken the step.
5.     I will have written the letter.
Future Perfect Continuous Tense

Structure: Subject + will have/ will has + been + Verb + ing + Extension.
Example: 
1.     I will have been eating mango.
2.     They will have been going there.
3.     He will has been doing this.
4.     Teacher will has been punishing him.
5.     The baby will has been wanting some milk.
